    OIG is organized into three line elements: the Offices of Investigations, Audits and Evaluations, and Healthcare Inspections; along with the Office of Contract Review and the Office of Management and Administration. In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 30 cities throughout the country.

    The Director, Behavioral Health Programs, located in the Office of Healthcare Inspections (OHI),Medical Consultation and Review section is responsible for conducting oversight, monitoring, and evaluation of Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Behavioral Health Programs, care, and associated quality improvement programs.

    Responsibilities

    As a Director, Behavioral Health Programs, you will:

    • Lead a team comprised of clinical professionals, including psychologist and healthcare inspector staff, in developing and performing reviews of VHA mental health programs and recommend policies, procedures, and clinical investigative techniques for healthcare inspection activities to the Assistant Inspector General for Healthcare Inspections and Deputy Assistant Inspector General (Medical Consultation and Review), particularly as they pertain to VHA’s Behavioral Health Programs, care, and associated quality improvement programs.
    • Analyze and report on nationwide healthcare program issues, especially those pertaining to behavioral health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder.

    • Provide the Inspector General, Deputy Inspector General, Congress, the VA Secretary, and the VA Under Secretary for Health with clear and objective assessments of the quality and safety of care, particularly as it pertains to VHA’s Behavioral Health Programs, care, and associated quality improvement programs.

    • Advise and recommend the methods, means, and rationale that OHI staff employs to accomplish inspections and focused reviews in the area of overseeing VHA’s Behavioral Health Programs, care, and their associated quality improvement programs.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Travel nationwide under tight deadlines. The incumbent should anticipate frequent walking and standing as a component of this travel.
