    This position is located in the National Portrait Gallery (NPG), Smithsonian Institution (SI). The NPG is devoted to the acquisition, research, exhibition, interpretation, and care of the portraits of men and women who have made significant contributions to American history and culture.

    The purpose of this position is to serve as the Collections Manager and Administrative Assistant for multiple curatorial departments in the museum as well as the Conservation Department.The incumbent provides collections management, acquisitions management, procurement assistance, and office-related support to the curators and staff of multiple curatorial departments, as well as to the museum’s Conservation Department.

    • Coordinates collection management functions that include accession number requests, photography orders, requests for the movement of objects, and the retrieval and return of artworks to storage.
    • Processes collection catalog records including data entry; supports acquisition process by preparing and editing acquisition reports; uses collection database to track artworks for photography, conservation and exhibition; and manages procurement and travel.
    • Utilizes specialized knowledge of collections to guide and assist researchers and answer inquiries.
    • Communicates with vendors, contractors, staff, researchers, and general public.
