As an Archives Technician in the call center, you will provide "World Class" customer service to customers calling the agency regarding military records requests. If selected for this position, it is anticipated that you will answer phone calls for at least 3 months and serve on a SET WORK SCHEDULE. You may have the opportunity to move to a flexible schedule in the reference core.

As an Archives Technician you will serve as a team member of the Reference Service, Customer Service, or Reconstruction Reference Teams in a records center environment, performing the following tasks:
· Analyzes inquiries related to military records. Reviews a large variety of requests, which may include inquiries concerning fire destroyed, damaged, lost or missing records and/or Congressional and/or highly sensitive records, and determines what records and/or information is required. Some records may require reconstruction of the military personnel data from auxiliary, organizational, and unit type records, and through external procurements to outside sources.
· Examines records or alternate sources for availability of information. Investigates missing, conflicting, or erroneous data. Communicates via phone, fax, e-mail, or written correspondence with the customer, other records sources, or government agencies. Evaluates the information obtained and determines if the facts are sufficient to provide a quality response to the customer. Consults technical reference guides to determine how to respond.
· Determines releasability of requested information and prepares responses to requests. Extracts data, composes replies using standardized letters/ paragraphs, or forwards requested records in accordance with established precedent, policy, or official decision citing and explaining laws, regulations, and policies in concise, understandable language.
Works in all instances to provide timely, high-quality customer service. Participates in team-building sessions, process evaluation and improvement, quality assurance, and other activities essential to maintaining and improving a team-oriented, quality service-based organization.
