    Summary

    This position is located in the Department of Labor/EBSA, Chicago, IL. EBSA enforces Title I of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and related rules and regulations.

    This position has promotion potential to GS-7. Promotion Potential: There is no obligation to provide future promotions to you if you are selected. Future promotions are dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and supervisory approval.

    Responsibilities

    GS-7: Assists Employee Benefit Investigators or Auditors with larger and/or complex investigations by locating, recording, consolidating, analyzing or summarizing information related to the investigation or preparing accounting schedules, spreadsheets and other analyses. Assists professional staff by conducting internet or database searches or by locating, recording, consolidating, analyzing or summarizing information related to investigations or customer service inquiries or preparing schedules or other analyses. Researches and summarizes precedents, cases, ERISA and related Federal laws, court rulings, agency policy and regulations, and applicable interpretations, exemptions, and opinions. Coordinates all information referrals to and from the Internal Revenue Service. Participates in the identification of potential investigative subjects by reviewing Form 5500s, contacting plan representatives, and researching potential subjects. Assists the Customer Service Unit by receiving incoming telephone inquiries pertaining to issues, participant complaints regarding plan noncompliance with ERISA, and questions concerning ERISA and other benefit plan issues. Uses Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as printing equipment to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve and print work products in a variety of formats. Performs general administrative functions including receiving phone calls; greeting visitors; eliciting information and personally responding to inquiries as appropriate; handling correspondence; photocopying; scanning; mass mailing; filing; timekeeping; and other special projects as assigned.

    GS-6: Duties are the same, but performed under closer supervision.
