The position is located in the Advanced Aircraft Projects Office within the Aeronautics Directorate at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The incumbent serves as a research/project engineer with responsibility for developing and coordinating advanced materials research for highly survivable aircraft and propulsion systems involving flight regimes from subsonic to hypersonic. Duties also include project management and monitoring contractors engaged in this work.
The employee manages development efforts for a significant end product or a major subject-matter entity, such as advanced materials and structures for highly survivable aircraft.
The employee serves as a technical specialist, conceiving and developing materials and structures investigations in areas where data is not available or is insufficient to permit advancing the state-of-the-art, such as developing materials for highly survivable advanced aircraft.
The employee serves as a technical expert, trouble-shooter, or consulting engineer, providing technical advice and guidance to the contractor in developing new procedures, equipment, systems, tools, or in performing the work required by the contract.
The employee serves as a technical engineering specialist in the test, checkout, and readiness of materials that involve new concepts and new and varied problems to be solved. The incumbent will also manage and conduct materials and structures test programs for application to structural and non-structural components.
