The Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal Careers while still in school and getting paid for the work performed.
What are the Eligibility Requirements?
You must be a student accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled in a degree or certificate program on at least a half-time basis and in good standing; enrollment must be with an accredited educational institution or state-approved home school including high schools, colleges, universities, technical, trade, vocational or business schools.
You must be in good academic standing maintaining a 2.0 grade point average on a cumulative basis.
This announcement will serve as public notice of competition to hire new Pathways students on 1 year NTE positions, to convert current IHS interns from NTE positions into Pathways positions that expire with the completion of your educational goals, and to extend current Oklahoma City Area Pathways Interns for an additional 1 year NTE.
An agency may convert an Intern non-competitively from the Internship Program to a term or permanent position in the competitive service provided that all the terms of section 5 CFR 362.204 are met and there is an available position. Once all the terms of section 5 CFR 362.204 are met the person is qualified for the position and there is an available position, this position may be converted to the following series; 0080, 0185, 0201, 0203, 0303, 0318, 0326, 0340, 0341, 0382, 0399, 0510, 0525, 0540, 0560, 0601, 0610, 0620, 0621, 0630, 0631, 0633, 0636, 0640, 0644, 0645, 0647, 0649, 0651, 0655, 0661, 0662, 0671, 0675, 0679, 0681, 0682, 0688, 0801, 0802, 0808, 0809, 0819, 0850, 0856, 0962, 1102, 1105, 1106, 1530, 1601, 1640, 1725, 2005, 2210. However, conversion is not mandatory or guaranteed. U.S. citizenship is required to be eligible for conversion. This Internship is for students who can commit to working year-round. Interns may work full-time, part-time, intermittent or (seasonal) schedules. The IHS is required by law to give absolute preference to qualified applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's definition of Indian for appointment to vacancies within the IHS in accordance with established IHS policy as outlined in the Indian Health Manual Part 7, Chapter 3. As an Administrative & Office Support, Pathways Intern, he/she will perform the following job duties:
Filing and scanning documents for mailing and internal distribution
Receives visitors and answers the telephone
Prepare and edit spreadsheets
Create, edit, cut and paste a variety of documents utilizing Microsoft Word
Other duties as assigned

Enrollment is with a qualifying educational institution such as a high school or state-approved home school; or accredited technical or vocational school; a 2- or 4-year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum;
Students currently enrolled must be in good academic standing, maintaining a 2.0 grade point average on a cumulative basis.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which annual leave is earned.
Temporary or Time limited positions have no promotion potential. However if appointments are made that expire with the completion of your educational goals, you may be non-competitively appointed up to the GS-4 without further competition at the descretion of your supervisor.
