As an AST, Safety and Mission Assurance engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring applicable quality and safety requirements are incorporated into project and associated facility designs and construction, as well as test and center operations.

    Responsibilities

    Performs safety and quality engineering functions for the operational activities of the Center to include test facility inspections, test project support, and developing and reviewing documents to ensure applicable requirements are incorporated. These documents include drawings, plans, institutional and program requirement documents, software, problem reports and work authorizing documents, procedures and plans.

    Actively participates in design reviews, risk analysis efforts, hazard identification and control, and system safety analyses to support test operations and construction/modifications of test operations facilities. Performs qualitative and quantitative engineering analyses, evaluations of potential deficiencies and development of corrective action plans.

    Performs safety and quality inspections & audits to verify compliance with Federal, NASA and SSC requirements.

    Assists management in developing and implementing institutional and program level safety and quality requirements for new and updated facilities. Serves as consultant for institutional, construction and programmatic safety requirements for Center operations and facilities.

    Provides inherently governmental oversight of contractors involved in safety, quality, and mission assurance disciplines. Coordinates with government and contractor safety and quality personnel and delegates activities and monitors contractor status.

    Implements quality control systems and quality assurance methods to support center requirements and objectives.

    Provides software assurance support for the establishment, coordination, and execution of NASA and Center policies, procedures, and requirements necessary to execute software assurance programs. Performs coordination and review of Center specifications and standards, updates and issues internal control documents and software applications.
