This position is located within the National Park Service, Pacific West Region, Death Valley National Park, Division of Visitor and Resource Protection, located in Cow Creek, CA.
In accordance with 5 C.F.R 213.3112(a)(1), we are currently seeking applications from qualified residents from communities located within park boundaries of Death Valley National Park, and the adjacent communities of Furnace Creek, CA; Shoshone, CA; Beatty, NV; Amargosa Valley, NV; and Darwin, CA. Only those individuals who have maintained a permanent exclusive residence for a minimum of two (2) years in these communities will be considered.

Responds to emergency calls by ambulance or by foot. Safely operate emergency medical vehicles under all weather and traffic conditions. Conducts a complete patient assessment using knowledge of anatomy, major body systems, and emergency medical techniques. Determines the nature, extent, and seriousness of the patient's conditions. Communicates in oral and written form with other medical personnel and public safety personnel. Utilizes emergency communication techniques and operates communication equipment. Maintains fleet and patient transport vehicles in a safe and duty ready state. Assists in the coordination of involved repairs and transportation of vehicles to appropriate mechanic facility. Ensures excellent condition of all ambulance supplies, medication, and equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT: Incumbent must maintain good physical condition and be able to pass the Physical Exercise Battery (PEB) or applicable standards outlined in Director's Order/Reference Manual-57 NPS Occupational Medical Standards, Health and Fitness. Work demands range from periods of office work (walking, standing, sitting, and lifting) to strenuous periods of extended and extreme physical and mental activity. EMS and search and rescue activities involve walking long distances over rough terrain carrying heavy loads, and using technical rescue equipment. Prolonged periods without sleep are a common occurrence both during ambulance shifts and during SAR response. Incumbent must be able to fly in a helicopter or fixed wing aircraft without ill effects. The work involves extended periods of heavy moving and lifting patients. Generally, the work requires recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, and positioning of patients, frequently under adverse conditions or in confined surroundings. Work is performed in an office setting, medical clinic, ambulance, classroom, in the field, on trails, and in remote backcountry settings. On a regular and recurring basis employee is required all work in all types of weather conditions. EMS work involves frequent exposure to hazardous environments, hazardous flight landings and takeoffs, extremes in temperature, and exposure to communicate diseases. The employee is required to comply with use of various levels of personal protective clothing and special safety and health precautions.
