This entry level position under the Workers Skills Progression Program (WSPP) is located at Portsmouth

Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME. 

You will work as an entry level employee and will receive training and experience and then will be promoted to the intermediate level and eventually promoted to the journey level. Advancement to the journey (and continued employment) requires satisfactory completion of classroom training and work experience. 

This job announcement will be used to establish and maintain a standing register that will be used to fill vacancies on an as needed basis at PNS, Kittery, ME. Applicants may be referred for consideration as vacancies occur. 

The initial cut-off date is April 04, 2016.

All wage grade positions are being filled as PERMANENT positions with a FULL-TIME work schedule. As

a PERMANENT employee you would be entitled to various benefits such as life insurance, health

insurance, retirement, leave (annual and sick), etc. The term FULL-TIME means that you work 40 hours

per week, overtime, different shifts or off-yard trips as required. If there is a lack of work in your particular trade you could be loaned out to another trade (at your current rate of pay) until workload returns in your own shop.

THIS IS A WORKER SKILLS PROGRESSION PROGRAM:

This program requires the incumbent to spend up to two years as a Helper and after successfully completing all required training and experience will progress to the Intermediate level. As an Intermediate, the incumbent will receive up to two additional years of training and experience and will then be temporarily promoted to the Journey level for one year. After completion of additional work experience and training your temporary promotion may be converted to permanent without further advertising.  ADVANCEMENT TO THE JOURNEY LEVEL (AND CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT) REQUIRES SATISFACTORY COMPLETION OF CLASSROOM TRAINING AND WORK EXPERIENCE.
