This position is at the full performance level, and located under the umbrella of the Director's Office for the VA Black Hills Health Care System (VABHHCS) in Fort Meade/Hot Springs, SD. In this position you will serve as a liaison of/for activities with various department and product lines, and assist Veteran/Families with healthcare translation services from English to the Lakota language. Your duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Translate from the Lakota language into English, and from English into the Lakota language both verbally and in writing;
- Provide consecutive interpreting in English and the Lakota language during telephone conversations;
- Provide interpreting with direct conversations between medical providers and Veterans/family members;
- Receive telephone calls and visitors on behalf of the Veterans.
Work Schedule: Intermittent On call basis As needed
NOTE: Intermittent employment is defined as non-fulltime employment in which employees serve under an excepted or competitive service appointment without a regularly scheduled tour of duty. A position with an intermittent work schedule is sporadic and unpredictable so that a tour of duty cannot be regularly scheduled in advance. Intermittent positions offer health insurance only if the employee is expected to work at least 130 hours per month for at least 90 days.
Occasional travel - Travel to alternate sites will be required.
