The MCC Student Volunteer Internship Program is recruiting for its Summer 2016 session.  Internships are provided for students with a desire to work in the international development field and/or public sector and assignments are designed to complement the intern's educational pursuits while meeting the expressed needs of the agency and individual MCC departments. Internships may start June 2016 and run through August 2016.


Duties

DEPARTMENT OF POLICY & EVALUATION : Candidates will assist with a wide-range of duties related to policy and program evaluation of MCC countries.         

 Policy Research Intern

Will work with staff to research, compile and analyze development policy issues including inclusive growth, aid transparency, country ownership, innovative finance, global poverty, and more.  Intern :  1. Write high quality, policy relevant analyses and talking points, often at short notice; 2.Summarize current research, evidence, and policy positions; 3.Create and organize an online document library, including annotated bibliography entries, facts for use in talking points, etc; 4.Position requires knowledge of international development, excellent writing and analytical skills, and an ability to translate academic research to inform policymakers.  The position requires an ability to quickly grasp new topics, identify most important sources of research and information, and produce cogent analyses. 

Selection, Eligibility & Policy Performance Intern: 

Selection and Eligibility (S&E) team manages MCC's annual country selection process, monitoring partner country eligibility, and leading ongoing policy research and analysis. Intern will: 

Support the S&E team in planning, organizing, and completing policy-related analytical research and analysis on policy performance related issues of candidate countries; Provide research and analysis on democracy, governance, human rights, control of corruption, economic freedom, and social policy in MCC partner countries; Conduct simple data analytics and research on governance indicators; Monitor current events in partner countries and provide analysis on their real-time policy implications for the country and its region; Attend external events of interest in the policy community and report back to the team; Attend meetings with partner country representatives, provide background on key partners, and take detailed minutes for relevant meetings; Work on independent research of interest to the intern supportive of team goals and needs.

This position requires excellent writing and analytical skills, the ability to translate current events into succinct policy analyses, the ability to consistently monitor regions of the world, identify sources of reliable information and produce timely analyses.

Threshold Intern:

MCC's Threshold Program assists countries in implementing policy and institutional reforms to improve prospects for MCC Compact eligibility.  Intern shall : (1) complete a desk review of literature on specific threshold countries to develop an understanding of the country and the region;(2) complete political economy analyses of the countries; (3) contribute to the creation of public communications content; (4) conduct other research and analysis in support of activities within the division; and (5) provide support as needed.

Economic Analysis

The Economic Analysis (EA) Intern will perform tasks including, but not limited to:

Provide analytical support for MCC Economists conducting growth diagnostics (constraints analysis);

1.        Provide technical and analytical support to MCC Economists conducting cost-benefit analysis and beneficiary analysis for proposed or re-scoped MCC investments;

2.        Prepare reports, spreadsheets, data and documentation;

3.        Develop other materials including factsheets, guides for use of spreadsheets, and other public communications tools;

4.        Research and analysis in support of other activities within the EA Division and the Department of Policy and Evaluation; and

5.        Other duties as assigned.

Monitoring and Evaluation Intern: 

Will assist with data documentation of methods for monitoring and evaluating compact programs; review M&E business process relating to developing the management information system and website reporting (MIS); research and prepare reports on donor involvement in Compact and Threshold countries; generate quantitative and qualitative summaries of country performance on M&E indicators; prepare country program summaries, performance measurements, and results data for publication and website posting; assist with preparing data reports for MCC upper Management and external stakeholders; create/maintain resource libraries; attend internal and external meetings; and other duties as assigned. Experience in political economy/institutional analysis, system dynamics, or governance/institutional reform preferred.

DEVELOPMENT POLICY INTERN:

MCC's Development Policy (DP) team is manages the research, analysis, and decision-making process behind the annual selection of MCC country partners. Interns will assist by using qualitative and quantitative research skills to provide relevant information and analysis on country-specific policy areas and international development issues. Candidates with demonstrated capacity to provide independent and policy-relevant analysis, and have exceptional analytical and writing skills are strongly encouraged to apply.
