    Duties

    Summary

Serves as an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer responsible for performing EMC-related analysis and testing of space-based systems. The individual will participate in activities involving the definition and either analytical or test verification of EMC requirements, the execution of MIL-STD-461 EMC, the execution of lightning and electrostatic discharge (ESD) testing and the performance of analysis tasks with regards to shielding, ESD, and bonding and EM wave propagation.

To receive consideration, you must submit a resume and answer NASA-specific questions. The NASA questions appear after you submit your resume and are transferred to the NASA web site. If you successfully apply, USAJOBS will show your application status as 'Received'. If your status is 'Application Status Not Available', you have not successfully applied. Do not rely on a USAJOBS email to confirm successful application. Only an email from NASA confirms a successful application.

-Serves as an authority on EMC matters and provides technical knowledge, guidance and support by coordinating and negotiating with technical team and program management on testing, analysis of hardware design and in reports, status notes and briefings.

-Performs complex and non-complex analysis using electrical and physics knowledge to determine electromagnetic effects caused by configuration changes in hardware. Perform gap analyses to determine whether results of commercial EMC testing are comparable to the requirements for military (MIL-STD-461) EMC testing. Serves as an expert in the field of EMC and ensures that appropriate EMC requirements are levied and implemented. Reviews hardware for shielding effectiveness, and adequate electrical bond for electrical and structural item and offers solutions. Executes analyses for Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordinance (HERO).

-Define EMC/ESD/lightning test configurations for device under test and lab equipment. Documents configuration in a test plan, leads testing activities, analyzes and documents EMC/lightning/ESD test results. Actively participates in radiated and conducted susceptibility testing and radiated and conducted emissions testing from the test facility perspective. Participates in EMC and ESD anomaly investigations. Plans, performs and documents magnetic testing.

-Analytically propagates expected lightning currents into structure and cabling to determine if any degradation has occurred.
