    This is a TEMP NTE 2 Years position in the Senior Executive Service (SES). This vacancy is for an Assistant Inspector General for Legal and Legislative Affairs in the Immediate Office, located at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of Inspector General, in Washington, DC.

    This position is located in the Office of Inspector General (OIG), U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC). This executive level position manages the programs, operations and services of the Office of Counsel and Legislative Affairs, providing legal interpretations and guidance involving matters of civil, administrative, and criminal laws and oversees OIG’s legislative and external affairs program.

    Duties include providing significant legal and legislative affairs counsel and advice with respect to legal and policy-making determinations under consideration by the Inspector General (IG) that significantly impact OIG operations, the DOC, and members of the public.

    The incumbent is involved in very complex, sophisticated, and sensitive matters impacting OIG’s mission to improve the programs and operations of the Department of Commerce through independent and objective oversight. In particular, the incumbent will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to the Inspector General (IG), Deputy Inspector General, and OIG staff on a wide variety of matters, including the Privacy Act, Freedom of Information Act, federal employee ethics, federal employment law, Equal Employment Opportunity law, operations law, administrative law, and litigation, and perform other duties as assigned by the IG and Deputy IG.
