The incumbent serves as a Medical Record Technician - Clinical Documentation Improvement Professional in the Health Management Information System (HIMS) section within the Business Office Service Line at the VA Medical Center located in Manchester, New Hampshire. As a Clinical Documentation Improvement Professional, the duties and reponsbilities of this position are extremely complex due to the multifaceted mission of the New England Healthcare System. These duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Providing ongoing education to our providers and coding team members by managing coding and encounter form education activities.
• Facilitates improved overall quality, completeness and accuracy of medical record documentation as well as promoting appropriate clinical documentation through extensive interaction with physicians, other patient care givers and HIMS coding staff to ensure clinical documentation and services rendered to patients is complete and accurate.
• Compiles, review, abstracts, analyzes and interprets medical data incidental to a variety of patient care and treatment activities.
• Maintains statistical database(s) to track the results and validate the program for identifying patterns and variations in coding and medical documentation practices producing regular reports to the senior medical leadership.
• Assumes leadership responsibility providing direct support for the development, coordination, maintenance and operation of the Clinical Documentation Improvement program at the medical center level.
•Works with and knowledge of ICD-9/10-CM nomenclature, CPT/HCPCS, medical and procedural terminology, anatomy and physiology, abnormal laboratory results and disease processes. Employee must have knowledge of recognized medical and legal requirements, and regulatory and accrediting agency requirements to perform medical records analysis and evaluate the adequacy of medical records documentation.

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
