The position serves as a Education Program Specialist in the Accountability and Performance Branch, Division of Academic and Technical Education, Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education OCTAE), U.S. Department of Education. The incumbent performs professional work for an educationally related program (or group of programs) directed towards improving American education. Program objectives are achieved through the management of grants, contracts, and loans, as well as through professional leadership and expertise.


The incumbent provides guidance and technical assistance to the States, other agencies, and local institutions in designing, improving and maintaining state and local accountability systems for secondary, postsecondary and career education. Coordinates with other Department units and Federal agencies in responding to the mandates of the Results Act, in providing technical assistance to Federal, State, and local staffs to promote, support and improve the quality of measurement and the capacity of state and local grantees to collect and analyze data to drive continuous improvement and better decision making. Provides guidance to states in the assessment of existing accountability provisions in secondary, postsecondary and career education legislation. Uses State Plans and Annual Enrollment, Performance and Financial Reports as a basis for providing assistance to the States and the field in promoting excellence in secondary, postsecondary and career education. Provides guidance on accountability issues and assessment, and use of accountability information for management improvement. Strives to increase the proportion of students successfully completing secondary programs with strong academic rigor and that meet, as appropriate, industry approved/recognized skill standards and certificates. Conducts on-site and virtual monitoring visits to ascertain State compliance with applicable guidelines, laws and regulation regarding accountability. Performs other related duties as assigned.
