The Geriatric and Extended Care (GEC) Patient Care line is responsible for the care of Veterans in a multitude of programs. The Geriatrician will be based in Honolulu, Hawaii. Responsibilities include providing care to Veterans in GEC Home and Community based programs, geriatric clinics, and teaching of trainees. Obtaining University academic appointment, air travel to other Pacific Islands, and Board Certification in Geriatric Medicine within two years of appointment is required. Geriatric clinic, Interdisciplinary Team experience, and leadership skill are a plus.

 

Work Schedule: Days and hours to be determined by management and the incumbent.
Functional Statement Title/#:  Scope of Practice to be determined by the Chief of Staff's office.

Salary does not include the 12.25% *Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) for Honolulu, Hawaii.

Basic Requirements:  

  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience: Geriatric Medicine (Fellowship trained Geriatrician.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.  This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
