This position is located in the Civil Engineering Support Equipment (CESE)/Containerization Division, Supply Department at the Naval Supply Fleet Logistics Center San Diego detachment in Port Hueneme, California. The Division is responsible for packing of Naval Construction Force (NCF) Tables of Allowance (TOAs) into International Standardization Organization (ISO) containers for rapid deployment.  The Packer will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks involving the packing of standard, specialized and hazardous materials and equipment which requires special documentation and custom packing.

- Research information for all standard, specialized and hazardous materials to meet industrial and government standards.

- Prepare and process all documents, special handling labels, correct shipping codes and required safety data for material being packed and shipped by air, water and ground transportation.

- Pack, mark, label and certify hazardous materials for all modes of transportation meeting all federal and international regulatory packing and shipping requirements.

- Construct, adapt and modify specialized/custom shipping and storage containers made of fiberboard, cushioning and other similar materials to accommodate items of unusual sizes and shapes. 

- Utilize stencil machines to generate stencils for marking specific items and use computer/bar code technology and equipment to label packages.

- Operate propane, electric, gasoline and/or diesel powered forklifts and material handling equipment to move, lift, unload and relocate materials and equipment.

- Selectee will be required to complete and maintain the Hazardous Material Certification Training Course and Federal testing.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.  Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is:  Ability to do the work of a Packer, WG-7002-06 without more than normal supervision such as: the full range of Packer tasks ensuring hazardous shipments comply with international, federal, state and local directives regarding packing, preserving, packaging, marking, labeling, research, documentation, classification, identification and certification prior to release for all modes of shipment. Skilled in the use of hammers, strapping tools, stapling and banding machines and other equipment utilized in packing operations.  Skilled in special techniques of slot hanging, mounting, suspending and bracketing utilized in packing operations. Perform packing of hazardous and nonhazardous materials and classified items on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection; operate forklifts and material handling equipment such as jacks and levers; utilize computer/bar code technology and equipment.

Must possess and maintain a current valid state driver's license.

Must be able to obtain and maintain HAZMAT certification and recertify every two years.

Must be able to obtain and maintain Government Forklift Operator's License and recertify every two years.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

REQUIREMENTS:

Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.
