This position is located in the Exhibits Production Division within the National Museum of American History (NMAH). The purpose of this position is to fabricate high quality components that will display museum objects to their best advantage.
- Fabricates, installs, and dismantles complicated cases, panels, artifact supports, platforms, pedestals, walls, railings, simulated environments, and other complex exhibit items by using a variety of special techniques performed on various materials such as wood, metal, plastic, glass, synthetics, or a combination thereof.
- Repairs fragile museum artifacts and props, molding and making parts, refilling chips or broken places with plaster, wood plastic, or other materials. Carves intricate items as contoured fretwork and molding. Reassembles, builds and/or modifies cases, platform, or other structures used to create period room settings.
- Represents Exhibition Fabrication team by working with designers, curators, conservators and other staff in planning of exhibit elements.
