JOB SUMMARY:

US Army Veterinary Services operates as a subsidiary of Public Health Command. Their mission is to provide military veterinary services in support of United States Army Medical Command and Department of Defense missions. The civilian function of the Veterinary Services is a supplemental mission which exists to assist soldiers and their families in the field of animal health and care.

This is a FLEX/Intermittent position with the Randolph AFB Veterinary Treatment Facility. Flexible employees serve in a continuing position on a scheduled or as-needed basis.

 

Salary is pro-rated based on a 40 hour work week. Hourly salary is $12.54.

 

Work schedule to be determined after hire. No TDY, shift work, or holidays.

DUTIES:

Responsible for the appearance, sanitation, supplies, and patient flow for one or more designated exam rooms. Verifies patient reason for visit and prepares supplies for veterinarian examination. Obtains patient history and records vital signs, to include blood pressure, temperature, and pulse into the veterinary treatment record. Obtains samples and completes diagnostic testing. May assist veterinarian during surgical procedures, to include preparing surgery packs, scalpel blades, and suture material, monitoring a patient using an anesthetic machine. Continuously informs medical staff of the changes in general condition of patient during surgical procedures. Prepares and administers vaccinations, oral and topical medications to patient. Assist the facility in obtaining local credentialing for surgical, anesthetic, dental, and diagnostic procedures. May provide training to lower level staff. Includes other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Six (6) months experience directly related to the duties required in the position and which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to perform successfully in the position.


Conditions of Employment:

1. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

2. 3. All required background check of AR 215-3 must be successfully completed and maintained. Satisfactory completion of a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) that will be initiated prior to appointment to a NAF position.

4. Social Security Card and a Picture I.D. must be presented at time of appointment.

5. Saturday shifts may be required.

6. A physical examination is required after selection.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies:  Minimum Qualifications, Skill in Veterinary Processes, Physical Requirements, Verbal Communication and Written Communication .

Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid experience or volunteer work. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
