PATHWAY PROGRAM OVERVIEW: Allows students to be exposed to the work of the Government through Federal internships while pursuing their degree. This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals.

This position is part of the Pathways Internship Program and is located in the Correctional Services Department in the North Central Regional Office of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Incumbent provides administrative support to the Correctional Services Department and Emergency Preparedness Section. He/she assists with monitoring and scheduling of mock exercises and collecting and recording results and progress. Incumbent will assist with maintaining the Emergency Operations Center and assist in coordinating Incident Command System training.
Incumbent will also assist with routine clerical work, which may include maintaining departmental calendar, answering telephones, distributing mail, typing correspondence, screening visitors, conducting inventories and ordering supplies or other related duties in support of the office.
Work assignments will provide the incumbent with the opportunity to learn about the overall mission, functions and organization of the Regional Office and the Federal Bureau of Prisons

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following:
Applicants must be current students pursuing a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher AND maintain at least a half time or full time course load.
GS-04: Completion of two (2) full academic years of post-high school study or associates degree.
GS-05: Completion of four (4) academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.
This position has a basic educational requirement. Individuals applying for this position must be enrolled in a degree program directly related to the position.

Conversion to the Competitive Service: Interns may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the program.
This position has a basic educational requirement. Individuals applying for this position must be enrolled in a degree program directly related to the position. In order to be eligible for conversion into the competitive service, the incumbent must meet the degree requirements, as governed by the Office of Personnel Management, for this position.
To be eligible for conversion, Interns must:
Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program;
Complete their degree or certificate requirements;
Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted;
Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and perform their job successfully.
Agencies may waive up to 320 of the required 640 hours of work for Interns who demonstrate high potential as evidenced by outstanding academic achievement and exceptional job performance. In addition, students working in agencies through third-party intern providers may count up to 320 of the hours they work toward the 640 hour requirement.
Time spent under previous Internship Program appointments may count towards required work experience hours. Applicants will be required to provide supporting documentation to support participation in previous programs.
Conditions of Employment:
Upon conversion into a permanent position, the intern must attend and successfully complete the Introduction to Correctional Techniques, a 3-week training course in Glynco, GA.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:
