The National Guard’s full-time support program requires that all military technicians are members of the National Guard and are appointed to full-time positions which correspond to their military assignments. (IAW TPR 303, 24 August 2005)





Grade inversion within the full time workforce in not permitted. The military grade must not exceed that of the supervisor. Members applying for this position and exceeding the maximum military grade listed on this job announcement MUST submit a statement in writing that they are willing to take an administrative reduction in grade to the advertised military grade on the job announcement for which applying. (1) Planning:  Plans weekly or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations.  Establishes deadlines and priorities based on established general schedules, methods and policies.  Determines skills, materials and equipment required to do the work.  Participates in the initial planning of current and future work schedules and development of budget requests.  Provides workload data, estimates, information on staffing needs, and recommendations as to the scheduling of projected work. 


(2) Work Direction:  Assigns tasks to be performed.  Explains work requirements, methods, and procedures.  Instructs subordinates on new procedures or methods and provides assistance on difficult or new problem areas.  Reviews work in progress or on completion.  Make adjustments as necessary to effectively and economically accomplish the work.  Notes and investigates work-related problems and independently implements corrective actions which can be taken without affecting work operations controlled by other supervisors.  Assures equipment and material are available when needed.  Coordinates work with other organizations.  


(3) Administration:  Recommends and participates in the selection of personnel to fill vacancies.  Schedules and approves leave of subordinates.  Sets performance requirements and makes formal and informal performance appraisals.  Determines training needs of subordinates and arranges for its accomplishment.  Counsels employees on problems.  Adjusts informal complaints through discussion with employees and union representatives.  Takes informal corrective action on conduct or performance problems.  Initiates proposals for disciplinary action where needed.  Works to achieve the objectives of Government-wide programs and policies, e.g., equal employment opportunity and labor management relations.  Promotes the participation of subordinates in programs such as the suggestion program, cost reduction program, etc.  Ensures regulations governing safety and housekeeping are observed with appropriate protective clothing and equipment being utilized.  Maintains production reports and records.  Periodically reviews position descriptions of subordinates for currency and accuracy.  Initiates the detailing of subordinates to positions other than their own.  Initiates or participates in the review and improvement of work methods, organizational features, and the structuring of positions to eliminate unnecessary positions and achieve optimum content in those remaining.

Journeyman Level

Experience or training which has demonstrated knowledge of aviation life support equipment.

Experience reading and interpreting military manuals.

Experience in supply procedures and property accountability.

Experience collecting information and presenting it to various sized groups.

Experience in planning a functional shop maintenance program is essential.


In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, your resume must show 36 months experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.

--Knowledge and understanding of all aircrew flight equipment and chemical/biological defense equipment utilized by the units aircrew to ensure aircrew flight equipment components meet airworthiness criteria, operate within specified tolerances and in the proper sequence, and are mission ready to support the requirements of day-to-day operation as well as sustained critical combat operations.

--Ability to inspect, test, calibrate, certify, evaluate, troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, overhaul, assemble, replace, as necessary, and issue life support parts and equipment.

--Ability to install, remove, and inspect all aircrew flight equipment on the unit aircraft.

--Ability to utilize a variety of complex, state of the art diagnostic testers/systems/specialty tools to test, troubleshoot, and repair all aircrew flight equipment utilized by the unit.

--Ability to perform precision soldering on flexible circuit boards to repair/replace defective parts.

--Ability to plan unscheduled work when detailed specifications are not available.
