BASIC QUALIFICATION: For GS-04: Candidates must have had 52 weeks of
general experience equivalent to at least the GS-03 level to qualify for the
GS-04 grade level. For GS-05: Candidates must have had 52 weeks of specialized
experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level to qualify for the GS-05
level. GS-06: Candidate must have had 52 weeks of specialized experience
equivalent to at least the GS-05 level to qualify for the GS-06 grade level.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the
particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the
duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to
be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least
equivalent to the next lower grade level. Examples of the type of experience
that will be credited are: planning and carrying out the work of the office
such as; providing patient registration and eligibility services, process
demographic and insurance information of alternate resources, procedures or
operations and the use of automated systems equipment.
Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: For GS-04,
successfully completed two years above high school is qualifying. For GS-05,
successfully completed four years above high school level in any field for
which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This
education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or
technicial school, junior college, college or university. For GS-06 and above,
education is not creditable.
REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must present evident
passing the typing proficiency from a school or other organizations authorized
to issue such certification (40) WPM typing speed. WPM are based on a five
minute sample with three or fewer errors.TYPING PROFICIENCY MUST BE
SUBMITTED WITH YOUR EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION.Certificates of proficiency
are acceptable for 3 years from date of issuance.
GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Federal
status applicants must have completed at least 52 weeks of service in a
position no more than one grade lower than the position to be filled. If
selected under the Excepted Service Examining Plan, individuals may be
appointed without regard to time-in-grade requirements.

are considered under merit promotion only, unless they provide an appropriate
Standard Form (SF)-50, "Notification of Personnel Action," and
