JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:
The position is located on Fort Campbell KY, in the Mission Support Element (MSE) (G8), Resource Management Division. Fort Campbell is the home of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), located on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, KY and Clarksville, TN. The area provides inexpensive country living with the benefits of a major metropolitan area less than one hour away. The home of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Grand Ole Opry, and the NFL Tennessee Titans-Nashville, TN.

You will serve as the Supervisory Accountant in the Mission Support Element (MSE) (G8), Resource Management Division. You will serve as the Chief of the Accounting & Systems Division and perform duties such as communicating results of operations through Management Accounting Reports. You will ensure: processes are consistent with statutory and regulatory guidelines, accounting reports and reconciliations are timely and accurate and perform a honest broker/stewardship function over financial resources of the 101st Airborn Division (Air Assault). In addition to other Accounting duties, you will provide professional accounting advice, interpretations and analysis to serviced activities and work to resolve problems, discrepancies/differences between accounting and financial managers records.

Experience required:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: at least one year equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which involves formulating a variety of financial reports; recommending the establishment of policies and procedures affecting the accounting system; and devising accounting structures and procedures to satisfy regulatory or legislative changes.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

·         Skill in accounting practices

·         Knowledge of accounting principles and theory

·         Skill in financial statements and reports

·         Ability to supervise subordinate employees

Positive Education Requirement. You must meet at least one of the Educational Requirements:

Have a degree in accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting.

OR

Have a combination of education and experience that includes at least 4 years of experience in accounting or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge and I have completed 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing courses.

OR


Have a combination of education and experience that includes at least 4 years of experience in accounting or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge AND I have a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination. OR

Have a combination of education and experience that includes at least 4 years of accounting experience or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge AND completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial coursework in accounting or auditing (15 semester hours), but that does not fully satisfy the 24 semester hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors could verify that I have demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicants education and/or education as listed above.
