The Bureau of Indian Affairs is the lead agency for the United States in carrying on a government-to-government relationship and carry out the responsibility to protect and improve the trust assets of American Indians, Indian tribes and Alaska Natives.

As a Laborer, you will;

  • Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies and other materials to and from trucks, follies, other conveyances; moves heavy boxes, cartons or luggage by hand, hand truck or dolly.
  • Janitorial duties, daily cleaning of adult jail, and assisted by maintenance workers.
  • Cleaning of road construction, road maintenance, facility shop and fire hall.
  • Ensure all buildings have inventory stock of all supplies.
  • Moves and arranges furniture, shovel snow, coal, ashes, and other materials/waste; collects and empties garbage containers, burns garbage and trash, washes and waxes cars trucks and other vehicles.
  • Responsible for grounds maintenance on government buildings and quarters.

 Part-Time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience regardless of whether compensation was received or whether the experience was gained in a part-time or full-time occupation. Full-time work is generally considered to be 35 to 40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

 


To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts with your name, school name, credit hours, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.  If transcripts are not included in your application package, education will not be credited. Transcripts do not need to be official but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify then you will need to provide official transcripts before you enter on duty.

 

Evaluation of Foreign Education: Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants educated in whole or in part in foreign countries must submit sufficient evidence, including transcripts, to an accredited private organization for an equivalency evaluation of course work and degree. You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation upon request. Failure to provide such documentation when requested will result in lost consideration.

SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS:  A background security investigation will be required for all new hires.  Appointment will be subject to the applicant’s successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication.  Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

 

OTHER:  Career Seasonal- Selectee will be guaranteed a minimum of 26 weeks of FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT each calendar year, maximum is 50 weeks.

 

Note:  This is a permanent Full-Time Seasonal position and subject to placement in Non-Pay Status when services are not needed due to lack of work, funds, or unforeseen circumstances.

ICTAP/CTAP ELIGIBILITY

Federal employees seeking Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(a) for CTAP and 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP.
