Basic Qualification Requirements for Mathematical Statistician, GS-1529:
A: Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.
B. Have a combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the Basic Qualification Requirements described above, you must also meet the following:
GS-12: Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience applying mathematical and statistical theories and methods for analysis of controlled experiments and observational studies; preparing reports of study results which include discussion of substantive health issues and research objectives; assessment of the adequacy and quality of data used in the analyses, explanation of the methodologies, results and relevance to health issues as they relate to the problem under study.
GS-13: Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience utilizing the best statistical practices and measures pertinent to the activities and programs of the organization in the summarization of experimental and observational studies; advises management on techniques to gather and/or interpret quantified information on a wide range of scientific and public health issues and analyzes and prepares written analysis of their substantive findings from health issues; prepare comprehensive reports of study results which include discussion of substantive health issues and research objectives; assessment of the adequacy and quality of data used in the analyses, explanation of the methodologies, results and relevance to health issues as they relate to the problem under study.
Documenting experience: In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record.
