If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for supporting the United States Attorney's Office, District of Northern New York. You will work in the Administrative Division of our Albany office and provide a variety of support services and administrative assistance. Typical work assignments will include:

  • Receiving, sorting and distributing all incoming mail.
  • Tracking postage meter expenses and arranging for additional postage.
  • Maintaining and updating records on accountable property, supplies, and furniture.
  • Disposing of excess property.
  • Placing orders for franked envelopes, DOJ seals, etc. with the Government Printing Office.
  • Serving as back-up receptionist as needed.
  • Escorting and supervising,when needed, visitors, and handling service calls.

The incumbent will also receive training in docketing information into a centralized automated database and be responsible for insuring criminal and civil case-related information is entered into this database as needed.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

GS-5: To be eligible at the GS-5 level, you must have at least ONE year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level; OR four years of education above the high school level; OR a combination of both specialized experience and education as explained below.

Specialized experience is defined as: working in an office environment responsible for all mail services; tracking postage meter expenses and arranging for additional postage; maintaining records on property, supplies, and/or furniture; serving as receptionist for an office; entering data into an automated database or system, etc.

Combining Education and Experience: Successfully completed post-high school education may be used to meet the total one y ear of specialized experience requirement equivalent to the GS-4 grade level.  Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second y ear) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.  One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

GS-6:  To be eligible at the GS-6 level, you must have at least ONE year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level.

Specialized experience is defined as: working in an office environment as a receptionist handling a multi-line telephone system; handling all mail services; tracking postage meter expenses and arranging for additional postage including processing incoming and outgoing mail; maintaining records on property, supplies, and/or furniture; servicing as a receptionist for an office; entering data into an automated database; etc. 

GS-7:  To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must have at least ONE year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level.

Specialized experience is defined as: working in an office environment as a receptionist handling a multi-line telephone system; handling all mail services including processing incoming and outgoing mail; determining and entering a variety of codes into an electronic program to track data such as property, supplies, furniture, case work, etc.; ordering office supplies; arranging for equipment repair services, etc.

 

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
