You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education.
Bachelors Degree: botany; or basic plant science that included at least 24 semester hours in botany.
Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in botany or basic plant science that included at least 24 semester hours in botany, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Courses in basic botany, plant anatomy or morphology, cytology, histology, genetics, taxonomy or systematics, algology, mycology, ethnobotany, and those dealing with specific problems of a botanical nature or with specific groups of plants are qualifying.
In addition to the basic requirements, the following additional education and/or experience are qualifying. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the specialized experience requirements. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
GS-7: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level; one full year of graduate level education; an appropriate combination of graduate level education and specialized experience; or Superior Academic Achievement (go to this site determine if you are eligible: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/policy/ApplicationOfStds-04.asp). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
Examples of specialized experience are: As an advanced trainee, conducted plant surveys and evaluations on vegetation inventories, plant population and communities including threatened, endangered and sensitive plants. Collected and summarized data for studies of plant use, reported observations and provided recommendations.
GS-9: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; or an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
Examples of specialized experience are: Developed, evaluated, monitored, and collaborated with other resource specialists on management programs dealing with threatened, endangered and sensitive plants programs. Conducted and supervised vegetation inventories on plant population and community compositions. Summarized data for studies of plant use, reported observations and provided recommendations. Maintained plant survey records utilizing GIS for project planning and prepared NEPA compliant documents for restoration actions. Identified plants using dichotomous keys and manuals.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements with 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
May be subject to satisfactory completion of one year probationary or trial period.
