Basic Requirements: 1)Have a degree in professional engineering from an accredited college or university that has an engineering curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). OR 2)Have a degree in professional engineering from an accredited college or university. The curriculum included differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. NOTE: If your curriculum was ABET certified, choose option 1. OR 3)A registered professional engineer in the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, or any State in the U.S. The registration is based on a written examination given by the State Board. NOTE: You must provide a copy of your registration with your application.OR 4)A registered professional engineer in the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, or any state in the US, and my registration was achieved by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions), and my registration is in a specialty field within or closely related to the specialty of this position. NOTE: You must provide a copy of your registration with your application.OR 5)Have successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination and completed all the requirements for a bachelor's degree in engineering technology (BET) from an accredited college or university that included 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences (to receive credit, the specialty field of the BET program must be within or closely related to the specialty of this position. You must also submit documentation that you passed the EIT examination with your application) OR 6)Have completed, at an accredited college or university, at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences that included courses as described in "2" above, and are acceptable toward a degree in professional engineering. OR 7) Have successfully completed a four-year curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or an appropriate professional field such as physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology. My work experience includes one or more years of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: : 1) Working as a structural engineer on facility projects; 2) Performing structural project development and design; 3) Preparing project specifications and cost estimates; and 4) Proficiency in the use of computer aided design and drafting software.
This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) and requires additional education, training and experience. Applicants should meet the DAWIA Certification requirements for the Facilities Engineering and be certified at the Level II at the time of application. Physical Demands: The work is generally sedentary with occasional need for site visits involving walking, climbing, bending and crawling to assess or inspect existing and new facilities and generally traversing construction sites.
Work environment: Work generally involves minimal risks and observance of safety precaustions typical of an office setting. However, field inspections are made which may require protective clothing. Protective clothing worn in field inspections includes coveralls, gloves, hard-toed boots, safety glasses, ear protection and safety belts.
