This position is located in the Office of Extramural Research Policy and Operations (OERPO), in the Office of the Director (OD), Division of Extramural Activities (DEA), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).  You will serve as an Extramural Research Policy and Operations Coordinator within the policy section of OERPO and will function as an expert authority on policies and operational procedures governing extramurally funded research.


If selected you will perform the following duties:

Function as an OERPO expert  resource, coordinator, and SME on extramural research policy. Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation, coordination, and interpretation of policies and procedures pertaining to extramural research and grant awards.

Provide expert guidance and assistance in the development and maintenance of SOP and Guidance documents having policy relevance and/or control.

Support the NIAID Animal Events Responder or accept delegated authority to fulfill this role.  Plan and coordinate OERPO activities pertaining to animal activism events targeting NIAID-funded principle investigators.

Serve as the expert on policy issues related  to the use, possession, and security of foreign Select Agents projects, as well as all Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC).

Organize and coordinate foreign select agent and all DURC (U.S. and foreign) laboratory reviews and site visits by the CDC laboratory inspectors. Oversee the NIAID foreign select agents and DURC MOU with CDC.

Coordinate and oversee all activities involved in tracking and maintaining data on correspondence and required actions in the DART Correspondence Tracking system.

Provide guidance and assistance to other DEA staff in utilizing and maintaining  the system, and in identifying and resolving systems problems and user issues.  

Review and update guidance documents pertaining to the DART System, to ensure current policies and  procedures are disseminated to system users throughout DEA.

Ensure completed responses are archived in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and requirements.
