About the Agency
The NASA Pathways Intern Program provides students with the opportunity to explore NASA careers and gain meaningful developmental work experience. This is an internship position as part of a work/study program. The work involves trainee duties at NASA located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), FL. This position is for students that have been accepted for enrollment or are currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma) in a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis.
Students may be placed in KSC organizations such as the Engineering and Technology Directorate.

This position is part of the NASA Pathways Intern Employment Program (IEP) which is a formal training program. Participant completes assigned duties, tasks, readings, and developmental activities specified in the Program. Participants receive formal periodic assessments of progress. You may be required to perform rotational assignments in various organizations.
The participant will be performing basic astrobiology and biology work within the life science lab.

Initial appointment to GS grade levels are determined by education level completed. You must complete the
NASA supplemental questions to assist in determining your education level completed.

GS4 (Starting salary $28,269): Completion of one academic year of post-high school study leading to a
bachelor's or higher degree (The one academic year is the equivalent of 30 semesters hours or 45 quarter
GS5 (Starting salary $31,628): Completion of two academic years of post-high school study leading to a
bachelor's or higher degree (The two academic years are the equivalent of 60 semester hours or 90 quarter
GS6 (Starting salary $35,256): Completion of three academic years of post-high school study leading to a
bachelor's or higher degree (The three academic years is the equivalent of 90 semesters hours or 135 quarter
Salary will be set at Step 1 from the applicable pay scale.
You will only be considered for the highest grade for which you qualify.
To be eligible for this position, you must:
Be a U.S. citizen;
Be at least 16 years of age at the time of appointment;
Be enrolled (or accepted for enrollment) in an accredited educational institution;
Be enrolled at least half-time as defined by your educational institution; and
Have and maintain a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.9 (on a 4.0 scale).
Basic Education Requirement: You must be pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university with major study in biological sciences or related degree.

The anticipated start date for this appointment is January 12, 2015. Interns may work full-time or part-time schedules. (Flexible hours and days depending on the student?s academic schedule.) The Supervisor and Intern will agree on a formally-arranged schedule of school and work rotations. A rotation is a defined period of work or school study. The intern may work full-time during summer and school breaks.
Interns may be promoted to higher grades based on the amount of education completed and acceptable
performance. However, promotions are not guaranteed.
You will serve a trial period for the duration of the Intern appointment.

Interns may be considered for conversion to a term or permanent appointment within 120 days of completion
of degree requirements provided they:
Successfully completed an academic course of study with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.9 (on a

Maintain acceptable performance.
Eligibility for conversion does not guarantee that NASA will offer conversion.
