NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED:  This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military rank and assignment in the District of Columbia Air National Guard.  Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.  Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.  Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

Brief Description of Duties: Develops plans, procedures, goals and objectives in support of the Aerospace Medicine and Force Health Management Programs using an extensive knowledge of Department of Defense (DOD), Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA), United States Air Force (USAF) and Air National Guard (ANG) directives, policies and standards. Interprets directives and applies standards to determine worldwide deployability of personnel. Advises and makes recommendations to senior officials on force health issues related to physical exams, standards and flight medicine activities to ensure compliance. Determines requirements, requests funding and administers accounts for procurement of supplies, equipment, and medical assessment in support of the physical exam process, flight medicine activities and related programs. Implements and maintains the information management systems utilized for aerospace medicine and force health protection programs. Administers the Physical Examinations and Standards (PES) program and serves as a medical expert on related issues. Monitors the medical status of military personnel. Determines the need for and initiates Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) actions for duty related medical conditions. Manages administrative and automated orders system. Provides prescreening for medical/dental/mental health and evaluation of personnel eligibility for deployment. Reviews preventative health assessment (PHA) and individual medical readiness (PIMR) data and health/dental records to determine medical deployability. Administers the medical records program and acts as the medical records custodian. Prepares, safeguards, and maintains medical and dental records.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  Experience, education, or training which provided a basic knowledge of principles and practices related to the health care delivery system.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least Eighteen (18) months' experience, education, or training which provided a working knowledge of missions, organizations, programs and requirements of health care delivery systems.  Experience analyzing and recommending solutions to complicated problems. 

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidates will be required to be in a compatible military assignment within One (1) year of the effective date of placement.

MINIMUM Military Rank:  e-3/a1c

Maximum Military RanK: E-6/TSgt

Compatible Military Assignments: 4A0X1, 4N0X1


Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience – Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree, in an accredited college or university, meets the GS-5 level requirements

Other requirements: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within One (1) year of appointment.
