This position is located in the Blood Bank, Laboratory Medicine Services, Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) California. Serve as a Medical Technologist in the Transfusion Service. Oversee the technical procedures and manage daily operations in the Transfusion Service. The position involves monitoring results reported, performing specialized studies and difficult procedures, modifying or adapting new methods or techniques to improve or expand services and solving complex diagnostic and technical problems. The Blood Bank provides support to outlying clinics such as Naval Air Base Coronado, Naval Training Center clinic, Miramar Marine Air Base clinic, Marine Corps Recruiting Depot clinic, Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, Pacific Fleet Southwest Region and other hospitals within the Western Area Blood system.

A typical day in the life as the Supervisory Medical Technologist!
- Serve as technical supervisor assuming day to day responsibility for assuring the quality of all Blood Bank operations.
- Act as a resource for technical information to the staff and overall operation of the department.
- Oversee testing and reporting of results of routine specimens.
- Assess problems and concerns regarding patients, component procedures, and computer problems and achieve resolution.
- Keep abreast of, and implement policy designated to ensure safety of the blood supply.
