Physical Demands:  The work is performed primarily in a standing or sitting position, but can involve carrying of heavy equipment, stooping, crouching, crawling, and kneeling as required to achieve the desired results. 

Work Environment:  The work is performed in a laboratory setting or in an office setting.  Assignments also involve working outdoors in weather conditions, which are occasionally extreme.  Work may also be under conditions which are potentially dangerous.

- Performs a complex range of criminal and investigative photography involving the most complex surveillance, crime scene and aerial assignments.

- Installs, modifies, and adapts photographic equipment techniques and processes with regard to new and unprecedented situations.

- Operates highly specialized and sophisticated camera equipment, some specifically developed and/or adapted for criminal and investigative photography.

- Develops and processes all types of photographs relating to criminal, investigative and public relations matters.

- Performs complex surveillance photography wherein sophisticated equipment such as concealment and light amplification devices are used.

- Performs crime scene and aerial photography in a variety of environmental conditions requiring calculation of proper exposure and focus.

- Conducts on site photographic surveys to determine the equipment necessary to complete the assignment and achieve desired results.

Qualifications for the GS -11 level:  All applicants must have one year of specialized experience listed below equivalent to the GS 10 level.  Examples of specialized experience  are:

  • Performed photography work in an investigative or law enforcement environment involving complex assignments in a variety of situations.
  • Performed photography work in an intelligence field using highly specialized camera equipment which may have been adapted specifically for investigative or criminal photography.
  • Performed crime scene and aerial photographic assignments.
Qualifications for the GS -12 level:
All applicants must have one year of specialized experience listed below equivalent to the GS 11 level.  In addition to the experience above, examples of specialized experience are:
  •  Used video system to conduct analog and digital video processing in real time.
  •  Served as a photographic instructor.

This position is designated as "emergency". As an "emergency" employee, you may be expected to report to work during periods of adverse weather conditions or other types of emergency situations when it is announced that an "unscheduled leave policy" is in effect or that federal agencies are closed in your

Policy has been implemented wherein support employees entering a position through a competitive OR non-competitive action may be precluded from moving to another position within the Bureau by means of reassignment or change to a lower grade for a minimum of 12 months. This policy does not apply to probationary employees. Probationary employees are generally precluded from being considered for all job opportunities until their 12-month probationary period has concluded.

Candidates are ineligible to apply if currently on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP); or have failed a PIP and are currently awaiting the final action by your Human Resources Office.

A Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) is a 90-day written developmental plan for an employee whose performance on one or more critical elements is rated "Unacceptable".

Relocation expenses will be borne by the selectee, except FBI employees returning from Legat assignment. Generally, following a COST TRANSFER you will be eligible for transfer after completing three years in the assignment. Additionally, NO COST TRANSFER require a one-year assignment commitment to be eligible for further FBI transfers.
