DUTY LOCATION:  103d Logistics Readiness Squadron (LRS), East Granby, CT 06026

JOB SUMMARY:  The purpose of this position is to serve as a distribution assistant, which provides technical expertise and support relating to the movement of equipment, supplies, and personnel for both peacetime and wartime.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.  This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Connecticut Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists in managing, directing, developing, planning and analyzing deployment and distribution management programs. 
  • Determines the most appropriate, efficient and economical transportation services IAW applicable cargo movement directives.
  • Conducts dispatch operations through planning and scheduling of vehicle operations resources to meet transportation support requirements. 
  • Administers installation driver qualification and licensing program.
  • Functions as a technical advisor to all statewide and base operating officials on matters dealing with commercial movement of personnel and cargo.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:  Experience interpreting, explaining, and/or applying basic rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of a transportation program.  Experience using computer and automation systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 9 months of specialized experience in the following: 

  • Experience obtaining and interpreting information.
  • Experience organizing and developing clear and concise written communication.
  • Knowledge of directives and regulations governing transportation of personnel, cargo or freight.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  High school graduate or the equivalent may be substituted for 3 months of specialized experience.  Education in schools above the high school level may be substituted for experience on the basis of one academic year of study (i.e., 36 weeks of substantially full-time study, or 30 semester hours, or the equivalent) for 12 months of the required experience.


  • Knowledge and application of extensive and diverse transportation regulations, methods, and practices to perform a wide variety of both routine and specialized transportation support assignments, to resolve a wide range of problems, to make arrangements, provide advice, or perform other work that requires authoritative procedural knowledge of various different travel policies.
  • Knowledge of transportation regulations that relate to the movement of a wide range of specialized shipments.
  • Knowledge of automated transportation data bases associated with the various transportation functions sufficient to input a range of information or adjustments, understand error reports and take corrective action, and generate recurring reports as required.
  • Knowledge of related functional areas and their relationship to other functions to investigate and resolve recurring problems, coordinate actions, conduct extensive searches, or expedite receipt of needed documentation using established approaches.
  • Knowledge of requirements for various shipments of hazardous, temperature sensitive, fragile, oversized, heavy haul, urgent, or other freight not covered by standing route orders.  Must maintain qualifications to certify for the movement of hazardous freight.

COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of AFSC. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

  • Incentive Termination without Recoupment: If you accept an Active Guard Reserve (AGR) position or a Military Technician (Mil Tech) Permanent position where membership in the National Guard is a condition of employment, your bonus will be terminated with no recoupment as long as you have served at least 6 months of the bonus contract following receipt of the initial bonus payment.
