Basic knowledge and limited experience are applied during the performance of assigned basic tasks assisting managers and other employees in day-to-day operations that contribute to the activities of the organizational unit. Work is performed in support of a professional, technical, or specialized occupation under the close direction of and with detailed instructions provided by a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee. Typical tasks may include: compiling and tracking data, providing basic computer assistance; scheduling meetings; typing correspondence; providing standard information on administrative policies; and maintaining records. Regularly coordinates with a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee to plan time, prioritize tasks, and use assigned resources. Contacts are primarily internal to the organizational unit with managers and other employees to share information or to discuss the status of assigned tasks. In some areas, may have regular contact with external customers and other parties on routine matters such as greeting and referring callers and visitors. Established policies/procedures provide detailed guidance for almost all tasks, with little or no room for discretion. Regularly refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee for guidance. Work is reviewed regularly during assigned tasks and at completion to ensure timeliness and all aspects of quality.

To qualify for this position at the FV-D (FG/GS 3-6) you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least six months of general experience working in an office setting. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. In addition, this position requires the skills of a fully qualified typist (40 words per minute).

To qualify for this position at the FV-E (FG/GS 7/8) level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to FV-D (FG/GS 3-6) in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include but is not limited to: maintaining manager's calendar; receiving and screening calls; making travel arrangements; arranging meetings and conferences; reviewing/editing correspondence; composing letters/memos; maintaining files and records; and researching, interpreting and applying regulations pertaining to administrative programs. In addition, this position requires the skills of a fully qualified typist (40 words per minute).

EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION:
Substitution of education or equivalent combinations of education and experience may be qualifying for this position at the FV-D (FG/GS 3-6) only.

At the FV-D level: Successful completion of at least one year of education above high school level can be used to meet the qualifications of the position. Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

At the FV-E level: There is no education substitution for this grade level.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a copy of your high school or college transcripts or certificates. If selected, official transcripts will be required prior to employment.

In order to meet qualification requirements, at the time the higher level education was obtained, the entire institution, or the applicable curriculum, must have been appropriately accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Qualifications must be met by the closing date of the vacancy announcement. Applicants should include examples of their specialized experience in their work history.

4. Skill in researching, interpreting, and applying written procedures, regulations or policies pertaining to travel, time and attendance and other administrative programs.
