This position is for a National Guard non-dual status (NDS) technician only. This position meets the criteria of the NDS Management Plan as follows:  The position resides within the infrastructure and support functions of the state National Guard; the incumbent is not subject to mobilization nor is the work described part of the military mission and the incumbent does not perform a key advisory or essential administrative role that is inherently military. In addition, the position must meet one of the following: it does not have a comparable military function; or the position is required in the full-time (civilian) role when the organization, or similar military position is mobilized to perform continuing post-mobilization functions; or the position requires a skill or competency that necessitates a technical expertise or professional qualification that cannot be readily found in the military structure of the state military force.


This position is located in the Base Environmental Management Office and serves as the installation Environmental Program Manager for the assigned Air National Guard (ANG) installation.

In this position you will:

Plan and manage environmental programs;

Advise management on environmental programs;

Conduct environmental program analysis;

Contributes to the working group that plans future construction in conjunction with engineers; and

Budgeting the execution of an environmental quality program.

To qualify for this GS-12 Environmental Scientist position you must possess the following:


Basic Education Requirement:

Possess a degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR

Have a combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the above listed Basic Education Requirement, you must possess the following experience:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal Service assisting with the management of complex and highly technical environmental protection programs that include hazardous waste management, storm water management, air quality, water quality, pollution prevention, green procurement, environmental restoration program, cultural and natural resource, spill prevention and response, environmental management system, environmental impact analysis program management, and recycling program management; assisting with managing, planning, programming, budget and execution of an environmental quality program area; assisting with the short and long range planning in conjunction with engineers regarding future construction and renovation projects; and preparing and guiding the implementation of environmental programs
