This position is located within the National Maintenance Project (NMP) and may be extended or terminated at the discretion of the TASMG Commander.

DUTY LOCATION:  1109th Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT

JOB SUMMARY:  The purpose of the Electronics Mechanic is to to perform repair, maintenance, modification, overhaul and installation of complex electronic systems and/or a portion of a complete electronic integrate system involving work on a number of subsystems but not requiring the integration of all operable subsystems into a functional integrated system.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.  This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.  Applicants who are not currently a member of the Connecticut Army National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.  If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a Connecticut Army National Guard recruiter at (800) 716-3550 before applying for this position.

The major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoots, inspects, installs, maintains, overhauls, repairs, and modifies complete operational systems consisting of numerous complex integral components.
  • Completes operational checks, inspections, tests and troubleshooting of line replaceable units (LRU).
  • Completes bench check, testing, repair, inspection, modification, programming, reprogramming, mating, adjusting, alignment, and analyzing of LRUs and shop replaceable units.
  • Recommends methods to improve equipment performance, technical data, and maintenance procedures by reporting hardware and software malfunctions, initiates materiel deficiency reports both on equipment and in technical data, and assists in design changes as necessary.
  • When designated on NGB Flying Status Orders, serves as member of flight crew for the purpose of diagnosing and recording malfunctions, or otherwise determining maintenance and repair requirements.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:  Experience which demonstrates the knowledge of electrical or electronic theory, knowledge of common testing procedures, skill in the use of hand tools of the electronics trade, and skill in reading schematics.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 18 months of specialized experience in the following:       

  • Experience in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment. 
  • Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. 
  • Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment.
  • Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc. 
  • Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  Study successfully completed in a college, university, technical, or vocational school may be substituted for experience at the rate of one year of study (30 semester hours or 20 classroom hours of instruction per week) for 6 months of experience. Courses must be directly related to the work of the Electronics Mechanic position.


  • Ability to apply electronic theories and practices to identify, isolate and repair malfunctions in complex electronic systems or individual subsystems of an electronic integrated system.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of digital and analog circuits, electro-mechanical devices, solid state devices theory, digital techniques, synchro/servo operation and integrated circuit theory.
  • Ability to interpret and trace schematic, logic and wiring diagrams and use a wide variety of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).
  • Ability to perform algebraic and trigonometric formulas to solve work related problems.
  • Current certification in high reliability soldering techniques, as well as electrostatic discharge protective techniques.
  • Knowledge of the Army Maintenance Management Systems (TAMMS) and other publications and directives as may be applicable to the function. 

COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.

  • UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT:  Any Army Aviation unit within the State

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment.

  • Incentive Termination without Recoupment: If you accept an Active Guard Reserve (AGR) position or a Military Technician (Mil Tech) Permanent position where membership in the National Guard is a condition of employment, your bonus will be terminated with no recoupment as long as you have served at least 6 months of the bonus contract following receipt of the initial bonus payment.
