·        Perform boiler operation and repair to remedy any malfunction as necessary.

·        Inspect equipment such as meter, shafts, bearing, motors, belts, turbine and electric pumps, to ensure proper operation.

·        Perform preventative maintenance such as greasing and oiling moving parts of machinery to maintain operational function of equipment.

·        Prepare boiler for light off by configuring and positioning controls, switches, pumps, valves and dampers.

·        Operate soot blowers to clean fireside tube walls and blow down water columns to verify that there are no false water level indications.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.  Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is:  Ability to do the work of a Boiler Plant Worker without more than normal supervision such as: Performing routine preventative maintenance and minor operational repair to boilers and related equipment.

REQUIREMENTS:

Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense (DoD) direct deposit of pay program.

 

Selectee will be required to furnish the following tools of the trade used on a day to day basis: toolbox, pipe wrench, 2 each 14” and 2 each 18”, 2 each combination wrenched 3/8” – 1 ¼”, adjustable wrench 2 each 6” and 2 each 12”, Allen wrenches, 2 each vice grip, pliers, channel locks, screwdrivers (standard and Phillips), Ball peen hammer #1 and #2, tape measurer (12’ minimum), hacksaw, cold chisel, flat file, utility knife, and a flashlight.

 

Selectee must obtain and maintain on-base driving privileges and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being operated.

 

This position is designated as an emergency-employee position and the incumbent may be required to remain at work in dismissal or closure situations, i.e. destructive weather conditions such as, but not limited to, ice and snowstorms, high winds, and hurricanes, unless otherwise directed by the supervisor. Also, in the event of an emergency situation occurs during shift rotation, the employee reporting for the next shift is required to report for duty unless otherwise advised by his/her supervisor and the employee at work stays until he/she is relieved by the shift replacement or approved supervisor to leave.

 

Selectee may be subject to call back during off-duty hours on weekends and/or holidays.

 

Selectee is required to work on a rotating seven-day-a-week, three-shifts-per-day plan.  In addition, selectee will be required to rotate on all shifts.

 

Overtime may be required.

 

Work requires frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, crouching, and working in confined areas in and around boilers/support equipment.

 

Work requires frequent lifting of objects such as boiler parts and chemical supplies weighing up to 50 pounds (occasionally items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance of other worker or weight handling equipment).

 

Selectee may be exposed to prevailing weather conditions, high temperature, constant noise, rotating machinery, soot, dirt, grease, chemicals, bursting boilers, burns, falls, scalds, electric shock, chemicals, oil and fumes, and excessive soiling of clothing.

 

Selectee may be subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones.

Must be able to wear personal type safety equipment such as ear protection, hard hat, steel-toe shoes, and other safety equipment which may be hot and uncomfortable.
