About the Agency
This position is located at the National Centers for Environmental Prediction Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado. This full-performance level position is responsible for a wide range of computer programming, analysis, network, and/or equipment assignments.
This position is also announced under vacancy number NWS-NCEP-2014-0028 (MAP), which is open to status candidates. You must apply to both announcements if you want to be considered for both.

The individual selected for this position will:
- Develop and maintain network plans, policies, and processes.
- Modify systems for solving problems and accomplishing work processes by installing, configuring, and maintaining networking equipment.
- Provide quality information to management for consistently applied best value decision-making using limited information technology resources to achieve priority mission goals and objectives.
- Design and develop systems for solving problems and accomplishing work processes by installing, configuring, and maintaining networking equipment.
- Manage network systems equipment (i.e. network routers, switches, firewalls).
- Work with Windows Server LAN/WAN/system administration.
- Provide technical IT network expertise to meet changing needs of an IT organization.

There is no education requirement or substitution of education for experience.
You must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies:
1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2) Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3) Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-12: One full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the (GS-11) of the Federal service.
- Managing network systems equipment (i.e. network routers, switches, firewalls);
- Executing Windows Server LAN/WAN/system administration; and
- Providing technical IT Network expertise in order to meet the changing needs of the organization.

- Ability to troubleshoot complex LAN/WAN hardware and software problems in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of telecommunications and network (LAN/WAN) systems.
- Ability to configure, maintain, and upgrade network hardware.
- Skill in systems administration for Microsoft Windows 2008.
- Skill in communicating technical information to a variety of audiences.
