Major duties of the Legal Assistant (OA) include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting financial litigation processing activities;
  • Performing extensive research and analysis of financial information;
  • Using computerized financial databases;
  • Interpreting and enforcing judgments;
  • Making recommendations regarding settlements, write-offs, and liquidations;
  • Preparing and filing legal collections documents; and
  • Preparing and presenting statistical data and reports.

    In order to qualify for the Legal Assistant (OA) you MUST meet the minimum qualifications as listed below:

     

    For the GS-07 Legal Assistant:

    Have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in Federal service performing the following types of duties: preparing legal documents needed for litigation, e.g., complaints and summonses, pleadings and judgments; researching a variety of legal sources to obtain and/or verify information; making determinations and recommendations actions such as settlements and write-offs; and using automated software to produce legal related reports, documents, correspondence and related materials.

     

    For the GS-08 Legal Assistant:

    Have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in Federal service performing the following types of duties: preparing legal documents needed for litigation, e.g., complaints and summonses, pleadings and judgments; performing assistance work requiring extensive review of claims and supporting documentation; making determinations and recommendations actions such as settlements and write-offs; and using automated software to produce legal related reports, documents, correspondence and related materials.


    Only experience obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.

    Status candidates must meet time-in-grade requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade level).
