The Veteran Affairs New Jersey Healthcare System (VANJHCS) in East Orange, New Jersey is seeking a part-time, board certified/board eligible attending staff physician to serve in Surgical Service Plastic Surgery Section. The duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the  following:

  • Assess patients in clinic and perform surgery as needed.
  • Provide consultation on Wards.
  • Provide on-call services.
  • Other duties as assigned within the clinical privileges to meet the needs of the medical center.

The successful candidate must possess sufficient clinical knowledge and experience to provide  competent and institutional standards of care, and must have good interpersonal skills to deal  harmoniously with staff, patients and family members. The candidate must have the necessary  qualifications to teach and supervise surgical residents. Additional preferred experience includes  fellowship training, Plastic Surgery research and publications, and experience in an academic facility.  Must be computer literate and be able to learn to utilize the computerized patient record system.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, Rotating Tour (part-time)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  See VA Handbook 5005, Part III, Chapter 2, paragraph 7, and VA Handbook 5019, Occupational Health Services. All applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surger in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of th eUnited Sates, or in teh District of Columbia.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Preferred Experience: Fellowship training, plastic surgery research and publications, and experience in an academic facility.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.  This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
