The VA Hudson Valley Health Care System (HCS) is a multi-campus healthcare system located in Northern Westchester and Dutchess Counties with seven community-based clinics located in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Sullivan and Rockland counties. We are currently recruiting a full-time Physician (Gastroenterologist/GI). This position falls under the Ambulatory Care Line.

The Gastroenterologist physician serves in the Ambulatory Care Line. Duties will include the assessment and treatment of gastrointestinal conditions as well as the performance of the following procedures: colonoscopy, EGD, and liver biopsy (preferable). The selected physician will provide consulting services to other staff members as well as more comprehensive care to select patients with complicated GI pathology. The physician will provide care to optimize patient health, work seamlessly with other health care team members and support VA patient satisfaction initiatives.

 

The selected physician will contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, write orders for diagnostic testing, prescribe medications, consult with primary care and specialty providers and utilize computerized/electronic medical records. The physician will provide patient care in accordance with professional standards, core values and commitment to service excellence. Must possess a current; full and unrestricted state medical license; be Board Certified or eligible in Gastroenterology; proficient in the English language and must be skilled in the use of computerized systems related to patient care.

 

Physicians are covered under the Tort Claims Protection Act.

 

Salary: Applicant's education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standards Board and Compensation Panel in determining salary of the applicant selected.  The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.

 

Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  A pre-placement physical examination will be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates. The examination will be concerned with the mental and physical ability of the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and will include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies. Applicants must have the mental and physical ability to perform core privileges required by the specialty position in addition to any specialty privileges requested.

 

NOTE: Selectee may be required to work at any VA Hudson Valley Health Care System campus or CBOCs, as needed.

Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.

 

NOTE: Current or former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50 (Notification of Personnel Action) – please do not include a SF50 for an Award.

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:

Basic Requirements
:  

Citizenship: Citizen of the United States 

    Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or of doctor of osteopathy from a college or university approved by the Secretary

    Residency: Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.

    Licensure: A current, full, active and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, territory or commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

    Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English is required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

    Drug Testing: After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
    Background Check: You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
    Physical: Applicants for this position must pass a pre-employment medical examination.

    Preferred Experience:

1. Background in outpatient primary care clinics.

2. Board eligible or certification in gastroenterology.
