The Food and Drug Administration - Protecting and Promoting Your Health

As a Computer Scientist, you will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing computerized regulatory and health information/data pertaining to adverse event reporting systems for medical devices regulated by CDRH to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the data;
  • Analyzing customer health information/data needs in relation to existing database capabilities to provide recommendations on system design improvements or enhancements;
  • Translating customer business requirements in relation to reporting and data needs to recommend new or modified programs or systems;
  • Identifying and overseeing the preparation of a variety of periodic and special reports for management; and
  • Training users on the capabilities and features of database programs

In order to be qualified for this position you must possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. (At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.)  -AND -
  • One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service, conducting a quality review of technical data in a database to ensure it is accurate and complete; assisting with the analysis of a customer's business intelligence/database needs to recommend exisiting (e.g. industry standard) data analytics packages and applications; coordinating the development of data management/analysis solutions; developing technical reports for management utilizing established databases; and training staff on the use and capabilities of databases.



This position requires specific coursework and/or a degree to meet the basic education requirement.
