About the Position:
The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned and -operated manufacturing center located in New York.  It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today it is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems.  The Arsenal is the only location in the DoD that has a weapons research facility (Benét Laboratories) collocated with a manufacturing facility (Arsenal).

    Serves as a Guard, assigned to the Watervliet Arsenal, a medium sized manufacturing installation with limited access. In addition, protective services are extended to tenants of Watervliet Arsenal which include a significant Research and Development Laboratory (Benet Laboratories). This position is responsible for the protection of government personnel, property and technologies against such hazards as; sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage and destruction.

    Stands guard at a variety of fixed posts, and patrol assignments within the installation, exercising those stringent security measures necessary to monitor and provide appropriate level of control of the personnel and vehicles on the installation. Directs and restricts visitors to appropriate destinations, provides information regarding location of historical points of interest. Closely observes perimeter to preclude the possibility of attempts at espionage, sabotage or unlawful intrusion. Responds to emergency situations, skillfully applying seasoned knowledge of security procedures, jurisdiction, search and seizure, weapons, bombs, incendiary devices, and methods for the preservation of evidence. Qualifies and trains with special weapons, (must qualify with 9mm Semi-Automatic Pistol).

    Performs foot patrols, insuring the interior security of the installation buildings. Utilizes knowledge of deployed security measures to detect faulty equipment and identify potential security problems. Inspects areas containing documents, equipment and technologies that are sensitive to the security of Watervliet Arsenal, its tenants and the national security. Patrols all areas responsible for checking and securing external doors and windows, turns off all unnecessary lighting, check for security violations such as unsecured sensitive material.

    Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass and/or maintaining order and protecting life.

    • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.  Candidates with convictions of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
    • This position requires drug testing prior to employment and subsequent drug testing for duration of employment in this position.
    • This position requires the incumbent to pass a pre-employment and subsequent physical agility test.
    •  This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license for the duration of employment in this position.
    •  This position is subject to the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) regarding character, trustworthiness and fitness consistent with the high standards expected of law enforcement and security professions.
    •  This position will require incumbent to work rotating shifts and other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
    •  This position will require work to be done in all kinds of weather.
    •  This position requires the incumbent to undergo a complete security clearance background investigation in order to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
    •  This position requires the incumbent to qualify with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol.
    •  This position requires a pre-employment physical examination and subsequent annual physical examinations.
