The Pathways Internship Program is designed to attract students in a wide variety of educational institutions (high school, home-school programs, vocational and technical, undergraduate and graduate) with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school. This program exposes students to jobs in the Federal civil service by providing meaningful development work at the beginning of their career, before their careers paths are fully established.

This position is located in the Center for Disease Control (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Health Effects Laboratory Division (HELD), in Morgantown, WV. 

 

In order to be eligible for the Pathways Internship program all applicants must maintain enrollment and be classified as a student at least half time throughout the duration of the intern program.

 

Additional selections may be made within the same geographical location.

Temporary appointments may be extended without further competition.


An agency may convert an Intern non-competitively from the Internship Program to a term or permanent position in the competitive service provided that all the terms of section 5 CFR 362.204 are met and there is an available position.U.S. citizenship is required to be eligible for conversion.

These positions are located within various organizations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

As a Student Trainee (Admin/Office Support) you will:

•Assist in receiving and screening telephone calls and visitors.

•Assist in handling routine inquires for information, utilizing a general knowledge of program operations.

•Refer technical inquires to the appropriate staff member.

•Schedule appointments, meetings, and conferences for staff members per their instructions.

•Review, screening, logging, and distributing mail.

•Assist in maintaining filing system for the office (subject-matter, numerical, chronological and                          

  correspondence) to include correspondence, publications and reprints, and administrative issuances.

•Assist in preparing reference guides to filing systems for use by staff members.

•Assist in maintaining an adequate supply of forms and supplies for office use.

•Assist in compiling and maintaining statistical data, listings, and tables as directed using calculators, computer word   

  processors and spreadsheets.

•Assist in preparing requisitions andkeeps accounts of project funding and expenditures, including

  maintenance of financial spreadsheets.

•Perform administrative support duties related to on-going projects, such as calling and/or scheduling subjects.

•Assist in scheduling conferences and meetings, including reserving space and notifying attendees, providing

  supplies.

•Attend meetings, on occasion, and taking appropriate notes.

•Use office automation equipment and software to a limited degree but not at the level of a qualified typist.

•Perform other duties as assigned.

Education: GS-3 - Completion of one (1) full academic year of post-high school study.
One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in an accredited educational institution.

Conditions of Employment:
