VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS) is complexity level 1a and provides a full range of state-of-the-art patient care services. ECHCS provides tertiary care and services to over 72,000 patients and is a major referral center for veterans living in Wyoming, Montana, Kansas, and New Mexico. ECHCS serves as an educational research center, it is highly affiliated with medical and educational institutions. Health Care Services are provided at 15 different geographically dispersed locations incorporating nine Community Based Outpatient Clinics, two Primary Care Telehealth Outpatient Clinics, one local and one remote Community Living Center, Homeless Veteran's Domiciliary, a Community Referral and Resource Center, a Polytrauma and Blind Rehabilitation Center and VA presence on two DOD bases; Fort Carson and U.S. Air Force Academy covering a geographical area of over 10,000 square miles. Note: The full performance level of this vacancy is 13.  The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of 11 to 13.  The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidate’s education and experience and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed.  The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.

Major duty will be providing Neuropsychological testing of Service members and Veterans who claim Traumatic Brain Injury, PTSD, or any Mental or Neurologic Disorder. The purpose is to identify severity of functional impairment and to assess for effort and other validity measures and to assist with diagnostic considerations where appropriate. Other duties will include performing routine Compensation and Pension exams to include reporting the findings on the Disability Benefits Questionnaires, or designated reporting tool as designated by the Section Chief Compensation and Pension. Other Neuropsychological testing or assessment of psychiatric conditions as required by ECHCS may also be required. Location is at Ft Carson IDES clinic although performance of duties at other locations in Colorado Springs and occasional travel to Denver may be required.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including neuropsychological assessment and using the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing disability assessment.
  • The incumbent performs neuropsychological evaluations for outpatient and medical inpatient veterans and active-duty military. Will also perform standard Compensation and Pension exams for diagnosis and reporting for rating.
  • The incumbent consults with .ECHCS and DOD staff as appropriate under HIPPA regulations on a wide variety of patient care issues.
  • Participates in improvement of clinical skills.
  • Is responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation.
  • Maintains ongoing scholarly and continuing education activity in psychology and neuropsychology.
  • Participates in psychology peer review as required.

Tour of Duty: 08:00 a.m. to 04:30 p.m., Monday - Friday, unless other hours requested by management
