JOB SUMMARY:

MINNESOTA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

This position is located in a Surface Maintenance Facility.   Its purpose is to serve as a working leader in performing mechanic duties such as maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, inspection, and/or overhaul of a variety of complex combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED

This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible MOS in the Minnesota Army National Guard and wear of the military uniform. Acceptance of an Excepted Service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard must be eligible for immediate enlistment or appointment. Assigns work orders to specific crew members and selects workers for various jobs on the basis of knowledge, skills, and abilities.   Works along with other workers and sets pace performing non-supervisory repair work of the same kind and level as that done by the group led.  Assures that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy.   Checks work in progress and when finished.   Performs maintenance,troubleshooting, and major repair on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat,tactical, and automotive vehicles.  Troubleshoots, repairs and/or overhauls a variety of the mechanically complex major systems.   Troubleshoots equipment with a variety of the mechanically complex major systems and diagnoses difficult performance problems.  Removes and disassembles engine and complex major assemblies,sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic and oil pressure systems.Independently performs repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations.   Provides technical guidnace and specialized team leadership to lower graded employees within the team.   Conducts readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity.   Performs electrical repairs on complex state of the art electrical and electronic systems requiring extensive training on specialized diagnostic equipment to identify problems.   Assists in the maintenance of production reports and records and makes recommendations to the supervisor.   Performs other duties as assigned.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:   Experience or training that has provided the candidate with sufficient knowledge to complete the work of this occupational series.   Experience or training which demonstrates the candidates ability to lead other technicians engaged in the duties performed by this occupational series.


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  Experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in the fields directly related to the repair function of this occupational series.   Must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment.   The ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series.

MILITARY COMPATIBILITY:   Upon selection, individual must be assigned to a compatible military position and must also maintain satisfactory membership in the Minnesota National Guard.

EVALUATION FACTORS:   Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of appropriate education, experience, training, self-development activities, and special awards. Candidates are considered on the basis of available information on their current application and supporting information that has been provided to this office. To ensure full consideration, applicants are urged to submit information about their training, self-development, outside experience, activities and awards. National Guard military (Part-time) service is considered as full-time experience when evaluated against the qualification requirements for a technician position. The applicant is credited with actual number of months the member has been in the National Guard if the experience is related.

AREAS OF PRIORITY: In accordance with MN National Guard Regulation 690-335 (Army) or 36-1 (Air), applications will be forwarded to the selecting official to conduct interviews by area of priority listed below:

Area 1: Career/Career-Conditional technicians and Indefinite technicians assigned to the Minnesota Army National Guard.

Area 2: Career/Career-Conditional technicians and Indefinite technicians assigned to the Minnesota Air National Guard Statewide (133rd Airlift Wing and 148th Fighter Wing) who were initially hired based on a posted job vacancy.

Area 3: Minnesota National Guard technicians who have not previously competed and traditional Minnesota National Guard members.

Area 4: National Guard technicians from other states and civilian persons eligible for membership in the Minnesota Army National Guard.
