 The incumbent’s primary assignment will be Hospitalist within the Medical VA Care Line at the Bath VA Medical Center.   This venue requires a diverse and complex range of acute medical diagnosis and treatment.  The incumbent will be designated as the Hospitalist and will be responsible for monitoring the clinical responses to treatment of all medical inpatients.  The incumbent will be assigned as the attending physician for patients admitted to the acute care ward and will provide medical evaluations and direct the overall management of the patients in collaboration with the other members of the health care team.  The incumbent also acts to ensure that the treatment is timely and efficient in order to ensure that the patient may be discharged to an appropriate situation.  Demonstrated excellence in all facets of patient care is mandatory.  The incumbent electronically documents all patient records and consults sub-specialty services of site at Tertiary Medical Centers as needed in the management of admitted patients.

 

WORK SCHEDULE: Full time, M-F

 

Applicant selected for this position will be eligible to apply for an award up to the maximum limitation ($60,000) under the provisions of the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), subject to availability of funding.

 

Applicant's education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standard Board and Compensation Panel (for physicians and dentists) in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.  The recommended  salary may be at any point  in the ranged listed for this vacancy.  

 

A Recruitment Incentive/Relocation Incentive of up to 15% of salary has been authorized for highly qualified candidates. 

                                                                                                           

 


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

     a. Citizenship.  Citizen of the United States.  (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, VA Directive 5005)

 

    b. Education.  Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.  The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.  Approved schools are:

 

          (1)  Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.

 

          (2)  Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.

 

          (3)  Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.

 

    c. Licensure and Registration:  Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.  The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.

 

    d. Certification: Board certification or board eligibility in Internal Medicine or Family Practice is required.                                 

                                                               

NOTE:  Qualification requirements are in accordance with the Veterans Healthcare Administration Qualification Standards for Physicians, which is available for review in the Human Resources Office.

VetPro: Any registered, and certified health care providers appointed to a Veterans Health Administration Medical Center must, upon acceptance of an employment offer from Human Resources, enter their employment history, education history, and all licensure/certification/registration information through the internet-based credentialing system (VetPro).  VetPro ensures the consistency of the credentialing process for all employees and provides a reliable electronic data bank of health care provider credentials.  This system is used nationwide by all VHA healthcare facilities in an effort to maximize patient safety.  This prerequisite must be initiated after an employment offer has been extended.  Employment commencement dates will be contingent upon the completion and approval of the VetPro credentialing/verification process.

 

Drug Testing:  This is a testing designated position (TDP) under the VA Drug-Free Workplace Program.  If you are tentatively selected for the position and are not now in a TDP subject to random testing, you may be subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to final selection.  Applicants who refuse to be tested will not be selected.

 

Physical Requirements:  Selected candidate will be required to successfully pass a medical examination.
