BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR A COMPUTER SCIENTIST (1550):
A Bachelor's degree (or will complete by Jun 30, 2014) in Computer Science. OR
A Bachelor's degree (or will complete by Jun 30, 2014) that includes 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have been in any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
Have (or will complete by Jun 30, 2014) a degree that meets the requirements for Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) through the following method (choose only one):
*2.95 GPA overall or higher or last 2 yrs. (=10% Pass/Fail)
*3.45 GPA overall or higher or last 2 yrs. in major (=10% Pass/Fail)
*Upper 1/3 ranking in graduating class (you must submit proof with your application)
*National Scholastic Honor Society. Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision. (You must submit proof with your application) OR
Experience: Have one year of specialized professional computer science experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-5 level in the Federal service or equivalent assisting in one of the following; analyze computer systems, update documents for computer systems and conduct research for the design and development of systems. OR
Education: Have (or will complete by Jun 30, 2014) one year of graduate education (18 semester hours) related to Computer Science. (NOTE: You must submit complete copies of your college transcripts)OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Possess a percentage of the required professional experience and a percentage of the required graduate level of education such that, when the percentages of the required graduate education and specialized experience are added together, they equal 100 percent. (Only graduate education and only professional experience equivalent to the GS-5 or higher is creditable.)
Experience: Have one year of specialized professional computer science related experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-7 level in the Federal service or equivalent assisting in one of the following; conducting operational analysis and formulates system concept architectural designs, and software development; develop simulation models to replicate systems behavior; conducts research for the preliminary design and development of systems and performs developmental computer scientist assignments, i.e., developing, testing and evaluating automated systems, programs and hardware or software interfacing techniques. OR
Education: Possess (or will complete by Jun 30, 2014) a Master's degree in Computer Science, or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education (36 semester hours) that leads to a Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field. OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Possess a percentage of the required professional experience and a percentage of the required graduate level of education such that, when the percentages of the required graduate education and specialized experience are added together, they equal 100 percent. (Only graduate education and only professional experience equivalent to the GS-7 or higher is creditable.)
