JOB SUMMARY:

The Workforce Services Office, Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA), is responsible for advancing VHA’s strategic position on the leading edge of state-of-the-art healthcare delivery and clinical workforce development in the United States.


The Assistant Deputy Under Secretary for Health (ADUSH) for Workforce Services is an integral member of VHA’s senior leadership team and is responsible for leadership of four Program Offices that directly impact the employee life cycle, including health professional training, recruitment and retention, career development and retirement.  The subordinate offices include:  the Office of Workforce Management and Consulting (WMC); the Office of Academic Affiliation (OAA); the Employee Education System (EES); and the National Center for Organization Development (NCOD).


VA structures its SES positions into pay bands.  This is a Pay Band 1 position.  The salary for this position is capped at $181,500.

Permanent Change of Station costs, a recruitment / relocation incentive, and / or Appraised Value Offer (formerly Guaranteed Home Buyout) may be authorized.

The ADUSH for Workforce Services for the VHA is responsible to the Under Secretary for Health, through the Principal Deputy Under Secretary for Health.  The duties of the ADUSH for Workforce Services position include, but are not limited to: 


  • Leads the strategic integration of WMC, OAA, EES and NCOD activities to ensure alignment to VA’s and VHA’s human capital goals.

  •  Provides accurate, authoritative information and consultation to VHA Central Office components, VHA health care facilities, Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISNs) and external entities such as VHA’s academic affiliations, health professional organizations, Congress and other federal agencies.

 

  • Works collaboratively with other VA organizations to move initiatives, policies, programs and ideas forward.

The Senior Executive Service (SES) is comprised of the men and women charged with leading the continuing transformation of government. These leaders possess well-honed executive skills, share a broad perspective of government, and a public service commitment.

Step 6: Approval by the Selecting Official (May include additional screening)

Step 7: OPM Qualifications Review Board (QRB) Certification
